Cayucos and the surrounding area offers beautiful scenery and awesome coastline all year round. Enjoy the many family activities on the miles of sandy beaches during both winter and summer. A famous and popular attraction is nearby Hearst Castle, just a short drive to the north. There are several nearby golf courses to choose from.

Cayucos Pier is near the north end of the Estero Bay. The shoreline, which is a mix of sand and rocks, frames an approximately 1000-foot pier.

History

The name "Cayucos" came from the Spanish word "cayuco" meaning a "fishing canoe" or Spanish version of the word "kayak." Aleuts hunted the sea otters along the California coastline in their kayaks, or bidarkas, but the Spanish name has stayed with the town every since it was founded in approximately 1875.

Activities

Historic buildings with an old-West flair on or near Ocean Boulevard are home to restaurants, a saloon with live music on the weekends, and half a dozen antique shops and gift boutiques.

Climate

Cayucos has a mild climate all year round. The temperatures range from 45F to 75F throughout the winter with many beautiful, clear days approaching 80F. Summer temperatures range from 55F to 80F with occasional foggy mornings. Rainfall averages 10 to 20 inches per year.
